Tick Tock, Times up!

Tick Tock, Tick Tock

Went the clock, the incessent sound drumming into the back of my skull like a scythe attached to a pendulum, slowly falling, and I, was the helpless victim, bound underneath. A feeling of dread in the pit of my stomach, a lurching omnipresent dread.

Tick, Tock, Tick Tock

My eyes darted to the side, watching the golden hands of the clock seemingly moving in slow motion as if to torture me. To taunt and tease me, as if my life wasn't already a living hell without their childish games.

Tick, Tock, Tick Tock

My hands twitched feverishly, cold and clammy from perspiration as they hovered over the keys, illuminated by a dull electric light. With each press of a button a small 'beep' rings in my ears, a confirmation of small success. Yet in my eyes, it was naught but success, as with each 'click' I knew I was closer to emptying my supplies.

Tick, Tock, Tick Tock

I scurry to th next haven, soon the sun would have set, and all would be lost. TIme truly was of the essence here. Faceless beings surround me, speaking a language I do not understand, shouting to and fro, and bumping into each other. They give no recognition of their animalistic behaivour and I begin to wonder if they have any cognitive thought at all. I attempt to avoid these creatures but find myself surrounded.

Tick, Tock, Tick, Tock

A panicked Cry for help escapes my dry lips, I reach out, my small hand in search of help yet it meets the coldness of air. The dank dark sense of lonliness. Fear sinks in as I realize that if I want out, I need to do it alone. I muster up what strength I have left, and push my way through these drone like creatures.

It was a maze, I turn left, then right, repeating a craized pattern in search of what I had come here for.

Tick Tock, Tick Tock

I began to grow weary, dirtied feet dragging across the cold reflective floor. Just when I felt that last flicker of hope begin to die my eyes landed on my prize. I gave a startled shout and scampered forth, ignoring all else. I could feel my sanity slipping, perhaps I was turning into one of those mindless drones, I no longer cared. If I could just reach out, and grab it, if I could just hold it close and get the hell out of here I know I would be safe.

Tick, Tock, Tick, Tock

One last stretch, and I gave an exasperated sigh of relief, as I felt my hands clasp over the cold object, it was cool to the touch, soothing. A comforting peace washed over me, replacing the dread and the fear, the reality around me began to twist and turn. Warping back to what once was, I had suceeded. I gave a sigh of relief as I wiped the sweat from my brow.

The hardest part was over, yet there was still the issue of leaving this horrid place, deep in the bowels of hell.

Tick, Tock, Tick Tock

I slowly began to trace the steps I had taken, ignoring the sudden hurried footsteps of the faceless creatures around me. A loud ringing sound made me, and even the drones pause in their tracks.

'DING'

'Target will be closing in 15 minutes, please make your way to the checkout to finalize any purchases'

The cheery voice made me sick to my stomach, no one could be that happy in such a place, I felt myself shiver. This truly was a new level to hell. I managed to make my way to the exit, handing over the last of my rations in exchange for my prize which I clutched tightly to my chest. My heart beating fast. To the drums of an ongoing war, in memory of those lost in this trek, and in relief as I finally survived, and have finished....

My Christmas Shopping.

Tick, Tock, Tick Tock...

Times almost up.
